3 Sisters Planting & Pepper Companion Plants

3 Sisters Planting & Pepper Companion Plants

The Three Sisters planting method, a traditional Native American agricultural technique, involves the symbiotic cultivation of corn, beans, and squash. Corn provides a natural trellis for bean vines to climb, beans enrich the soil with nitrogen, and squash spreads along the ground, suppressing weeds and retaining moisture with its broad leaves.

Pepper plants, although not part of the original Three Sisters trio, can also benefit from companion planting. They thrive when grown alongside herbs like basil, which can repel pests and improve pepper growth, and marigolds, which deter nematodes and other harmful insects, creating a balanced and productive garden ecosystem.
